Common Plumbing Problems

    1. Dripping Faucet

The obvious problem that comes up from a dripping faucet is a waste of water. Let’s assume that a drip takes just a second, then that totals 86,400 drips per day. A gallon has about 15,140 drips, which means it is going to waste about 5.7 gallons a day of wasted water. This is over 2,000 gallons every year. This means you are wasting about 8 tons of water every year. The numbers come from just one faucet. If you have more than one leaky faucet in your home, the waste is going to multiply. Even if the faucet is a slow-drip faucet, you end up wasting a lot of water.

    2. Running Toilet

This is a worse and more wasteful problem compared to the faucet drip. How bad can this problem get? A small toilet is going to waste 20 to 30 gallons of water a day. A medium-sized one is going to waste more water. A running bidet is going to result in a dozen tons of water loss a month. If the toilet is running and a quick handle jiggle doesn’t fix it, then it is important to call a plumber to help with the problem.

The running toilet problem could be a result of something as simple as a leaking flapper. The water is still wasted but at a reduced rate.

The plumber is going to fix the problem in either case. The toilet is going to run for about two seconds, intermittently. This is the common problem known as “haunted toilet” where the toilet seems to be flushing itself. The most likely cause of the problem is a worn-out stopper. When you want to replace one thing, it is a good idea to replace all the inner workings. This way, you don’t have to stress about calling the plumber in quick succession. As a side point, you might want to take a look at the boiler safety valve as this may come in handy for you.

    3. Clogged Toilet

Clogged toilets are usually very annoying. They smell bad. They overflow. There is a waste on the floor. It can be a sign of a more serious problem than you might suspect; septic system damage. This is something that many homeowners don’t want to deal with.

The good thing is a toilet clogging doesn’t mean that there is an impending catastrophe. You can clear the problem with a few vigorous plunges. If sewage or water backs up in multiple locations in your home, it could be a sign of a serious problem.

When such a problem comes up, the blockage could be in the septic tank or sewer line, or even pipes in your home. A professional plumber is an expert when it comes to such issues, they have the tools and knowledge needed to clear the clogs. The clogs can happen when people flush things they shouldn’t flush, such as dental floss, hair, food. You can make sure your pipes, toilet, sewer, and septic tank connections are healthy by following the simple rule; Number one, number two, and toilet paper only.

    4. Slow or clogging drains

Slow drains are one of the most common reasons people call plumbers. The problem can occur because of the same reasons as clogged toilets. Just like with toilets, you shouldn’t put anything that might clog the drain. The problem is you can’t plunge the bathroom or kitchen sink – plus it is very unsanitary.
